Case Study: Austrade: Advantages of Free Trade Learning Portal
“A training tool to help exporting vegetable growers get their high-quality produce into key overseas markets”
The Challenge
The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) is the Australian Government’s international trade promotion and investment attraction agency. They generate market information and insights, promote Australian capability, and facilitate connections through our extensive global network.
Austrade needed a single point of truth where SMEs and Australian exporters could easily find accurate information about the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Our Approach
Austrade engaged us to establish a digital portal as the single point of truth on FTAs and a ‘navigator’ for those seeking information on FTAs. The learning platform hosts modules containing digital learning bites (micro-learning) comprising short eLearning pieces, videos, podcasts, knowledge checks and downloadable/printable resources; some 120 learning resources. The Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) provides the portal’s functions and learner-centric features and creates a continuous learning ecosystem framework.
The design grew out of our initial ‘discovery’ consulting phase in which we developed target audience personas, learning journeys and a ‘service map’ to define user needs.
Users can sign up for an Austrade account using AZURE AD B2C to access the site fully. The portal hosts more than 40 hours of content, including resources on exporting and trade, interactive modules, digital FTA seminars and more.
Liberate hosts the portal on an Australian-managed, dedicated server. The site and hosting arrangement underwent an exhaustive privacy and cloud security assessment as mandated by the Federal Government.
We developed the micro eLearns and challenge-tested them in Moodle’s native Quiz format, facilitating a gamified feel to the solution.
Outcomes
Austrade’s Free Trade Advantage (FTA) learning platform now provides in-depth, in-house technical FTA advice to Australian SMEs and exporters. The externally hosted learning platform contains digital content tailored to individual users’ learning needs, sectors and markets of interest. Ausveg has been quick to praise the portal with national manager – export development, Michael Coote, “saying the training tool was an important resource to help exporting vegetable growers get their high-quality produce into key overseas markets”.
